Muhammed Ali Taught Me to be Elegant

My Youtube spiral begins with my journey to learn to learn about the American Bureaucracy, makes a pitstop along James Corden's Carpool Karaoke, and ends with a clip of Muhammed Ali's final fight against Trevor Berbick on December 11, 1981. Bright lights, a crowd brimming with energy. And in the middle, a 17ft x 17ft ring. Intrigued by the fight, I watched Muhammed Ali gracefully duck, hook, and block punch after punch. I was mesmerized. Perhaps it was this 40-second clip ignited the flame within me. Despite losing the fight, Ali demonstrated elegance.

And I want to be Elegant in everything I do. My name is Saket Mukthapuram and I am a Senior at Heritage High School interested in Finance! Welcome to my ISM experience and I am excited to share my journey with you!

Why Wealth Management?

Three days. It took me three days to realize that my best friend wasn’t sick, but that he had moved to a different state. After two weeks of ignoring me, he said that his family had to move away because of his father’s poor financial choices. His father, an ex-baseball player who seemed financially well-off, had been secretly struggling with debt for years. This experience inspired me to study business in order to take the reins of my own finances and help others with their money.

From selling Yugioh cards in elementary school to being an active member of Business Professionals of America, every foray of mine into the business world has further strengthened my excitement and desire to study business. My mentorship under Ms. Bourland of Ameriprise Financial Services taught me both the technical skills and the interpersonal skills needed to be a successful wealth manager.

More importantly, these experiences gave me the opportunity to craft my “why”: wealth management combines my aspiration to help people control their financial decisions and love of building connections with new people.
